The beginning of life


 In this first part:


  BIRTH



HOW THAIS GIVE NICKNAME TO THEIR CHILDREN: 
In Thailand, most of the Thai names are made up with positive and beautiful meanings but long or sometimes the name of the child will be given after one-month ceremony so it is common to give a newborn baby a nickname. It appears that nicknames are even popularly used than real name, not only called by friends and family but almost people as well. There are mainly two types of nicknames here. 
Short versions of first name: 
The short version of the first name can either been taken from the first or last syllable. For example, a Thai lady with the name Kanchana can be called Kan. Likewise, a Thai man with the name Prasert can be called Sert. Some people have two nicknames, one from first syllable and one from last syllable, such as Chunchaat. Both Chu and Chaat are nicknames. Some Thais don't have a nickname for simple reason that their name are already short.
The nicknames that have nothing to do with the first names:
Here is four major ways that family comes up with their child's nickname:
1. Words with positive meanings.
2. Father's and mother's name.
Many times kids' nickname are a combination of the fathers' and mothers' nicknames. For instance, if the parents' nickname are Mote and Da so the child can be called Mod.
3. Things that parents like. It could be foods, drinks, foods, animals, places, activities and hobbies.Even a nicknames of their favorite actors, singers, celebrities could be used.
4. The first character in their parents' or siblings' names. If their father's or  mother's nicknames are Jack and Jaa. The first name for the children would also begin with letter J say Joom, Jee, Jay and Je-ab.



NAME CHANGE PRATICE:
  One of the reasons making it popular in Thailand is that the procedure of changing names is quite simple. All things needed is registering a new name with local council and have a new identity card (ID card).There is a great deal of people having a good financial condition after alternating their name. However, it is possible to make relationships vanish since intimidate people around him don't know the new name. Besides, criminals can take advantages of this to modify their name and get away, which leads to a lot of difficulties for police.


  A majority of countries in the world,  it is rare and complicated for people to transform their names but in Thailand, It is absolutely prevalent and easy to possess a new name. Thais do this predominantly with the aim of striking luck or having better life. In Thailand, the naming for children is very essential; therefore, astrologer and fortune-teller are both required to do it by parents. However, the name might not bring luck to the child when  he grows old it is high time he changed his name  to make it better.




This man whose name is Baramee Thammabandan, has previous name: Teerapol Lilijira wat. Thanks to changing name, he runs a prosperous business and even consult with people who want change their names.


ONE-MONTH CEREMONY:
  When the child reaches the age of one month and one day, they arrange a big fire-hair-shaving and Khwan ceremony.




  In shaving the fire-hair, it is customary to make an offering for spirit of the place. Then, they shave child's hair placed in banana-leaf container with a Caladium or lotus laid in the bottom, sometimes mix with flowers. After that they float the whole on the water and often wish: "We ask for a life of coolness and happiness like  sacred Ganges".


  Khwan is the following ceremony occurring. In this ceremony, the children will be tied a Khwan coton string around ankles or twists and receive both blessings and an astrologer name on this auspicious day.


   Besides, he procedure of this ceremony also depends on financial condition but still follow customary steps.

 ORDINATION





  Traditionally, a young man is mandatory to become a monk once in his life. Monkhood is a period of time before he gets married and finds a career. There are several explanations which are making merits for departed relatives' souls or for ones'parents still living or gaining well-being. Generally, ordination takes place in July and lasts around 3 months. The man have both his hair and eyebrows shaved, additionally, wears a saffron robe. For the three months, he is expected to live at the wat, exemplifying the Buddhist ideal in life and undergoing rigorous training in body and mind control. In the end, he can whether or not choose to return a layman.
Heterosexual twin
In Thai culture, heterosexual twin is believed as an unlucky thing. Thai people think that heterosexual twin used ti bo lovers but could not live together in previous incarnation, and then in the next incarnation, they become heterosexual. the whole family holds a wedding for them because they consider it as a blessing and desire to send a message to the God that both babies are alive and still love each other as previous life because they fear that if they do not do like that, their children will die.
